No matter what the brace when you start wearing them you need to be on top of keeping them in top-tip condition alongside keeping top of your oral hygiene in general. If you start to neglect your teeth or braces, you will quickly find a buildup of plaque and tartar starting to form, which can cause a whole heap of dental issues. For these reasons here’s a guide to taking care of your teeth when wearing braces Liverpool.
What Is Oral Hygiene?
Oral hygiene refers to anything relating to the cleaning of your teeth and gums, if this is neglected what tends to happen is a decline in oral health which is what we refer to when talking about the health of our teeth and gums.
Types of Braces Liverpool
There are now lots of different types of braces in the market but for the most part, there are two types and that’s clear removable or fixed wired. Both have lots of pros and a few cons, and they both require different types of cleaning techniques. Let’s take a closer look at this.
Cleaning Your Teeth
No matter what brace system you end up going for, one of the most important things is that you keep on top of cleaning your teeth really well, this is, of course, much easier for those who are wearing removable, but a good clean is possible with wired braces too.
With fixed braces, in order to get a good clean, you’ll want to invest in a few helpful little tools. If you don’t already have a manual toothbrush, then you’ll need one. There are brushes with long brush heads on them designed to go between the wires, which are good to get the bacteria build-up out. It’s also a good idea to invest in some Tepe brushes, which can act as floss as you won’t be able to floss whilst wearing your fixed braces.
With removable braces such as Invisalign, you should be able to carry on with your normal oral hygiene routine. This should include: brushing twice daily for two minutes, flossing daily and attending regular checkups.
If you want to take your oral hygiene to new heights tongue, scraping or mouthwash can be extra tools to apply.
Cleaning Your Braces
With wired braces, there shouldn’t be such a need to clean the braces themselves because, with daily brushing, you’ll get the worth off.
If you’re wearing aligners, you’ll need to take time to brush the appliance alongside your teeth using a manual soft-head toothbrush. There are also lots of cleaning solutions you can buy which soak your aligner trays to help remove 99.9% of bacteria and give them back their crystal-clear shine. You don’t need to spend heaps of money on these. A simple denture solution could very well do the trick, but feel free to invest in Invisalign cleaning crystals if you want to as they are fantastic.
Food
With both systems, there are clear guidelines on eating. With clear braces, you need to always have them removed, and with wired braces, you need to be mindful of eating anything that could break the braces, such as apples, baguettes or toffee.
