Ready to book an appointment to get Invisalign braces? What to expect at the first consultations

When you decide to say goodbye to misaligned teeth and choose to approach your dentist about getting a cosmetic brace, you will understandably have some questions and concerns.

Known as invisible braces, these appearance altering braces can offer you more than just a straighter smile. They are both custom-fitted and removable, making them easy to adapt around a busy lifestyle while also being comfortable enough to wear to bed each night. Just put them in your mouth and go!

Despite the popularity of cosmetic braces, surprisingly little is known about what the patient can expect at the first few dental consultations, shrouding this procedure in mystery.

So, what should you expect when you visit your dentist to start treatment with Invisalign in Harley Street?

Examination

Of course, the first step in your cosmetic brace journey is the thorough examination, performed by a dentist trained in Invisalign in Harley Street.

This will include an oral examination of the condition of your teeth and gums, to ensure that you have no underlying dental issues like tooth decay.

Hopefully, by this stage you will have a clear image in your mind of how you want your new smile to look; discuss this with your dentist during the initial consultation, as it will help them to plan the next stage.

Advanced technology

When people think of braces, many assume that to have them fitted requires extensive X-rays and fiddly fittings.

As cosmetic braces are clear, you might assume that your dentist will need to take an impression of your teeth, which involves a gooey material being pressed against them, hardly fun!

With the technology linked to cosmetic braces, your dentist will be able to use a 3-D computer imaging scanner, to get a more accurate image of the inside of your mouth and tooth positioning in a non invasive way.

This allows them to provide you with a more accurate prediction of how long you will be wearing the brace for and how many aligners you will need to get that straighter smile!

The fitting

You may have your new aligners to take home after the first consultation but in many instances, it may take slightly longer.

At your next appointment, your dentist will discuss with you how long you will be required to wear your aligners for each day (usually 22 hours) as well as explain how to notice when it is time to wear the next aligner in the set.

Please be aware that while invisible braces do not require as many check-ups as traditional metal braces do, you will still need to see your dentist every few weeks, so they can check that the aligners are working on target and that there are no issues.

Remember, that when you opt for a cosmetic brace, you are choosing a more discreet alternative to a metal-based aligner that also has an accelerated treatment time!

If you want to get the straight teeth you deserve sooner, talk to your dentist today about invisible braces!
