All entrepreneurs know there are certain challenges that come with running your own business or being your own boss. There are plenty of distractions available, especially if you’re working from home. One thing that can often sideline entrepreneurs is a lack of energy. Low energy can be dangerous: it can drastically reduce your work output and have a snowball effect in both your work life and personal life. Jacques Poujade is a Managing Partner at LendPlus and has decades of experience in the financial services industry. Poujade has been through it all when it comes to entrepreneurship and is sharing some key tips for boosting your energy naturally.
- Make sure your getting enough sleep
This may seem obvious, but Poujade says sleep is where it all starts. Many entrepreneurs are busy trying to run their enterprise and are spending much of their time consumed with their work. Sleep is always one of the first things to fall by the wayside, when you’re trying to make time for it all. But sticking to a strict sleep regime, and making sure you’re getting enough rest, can be crucial in making sure your body and mind are prepared for the day, and for the challenges that may arise from being an entrepreneur.
- Be mindful of how you’re fueling your body
For entrepreneurs on the go, having regular meals may not be a top priority. Entrepreneurs may eat snacks, junk food, or fast food, because it’s easier and quicker, and more conducive to their lifestyle. But choosing natural foods which fuel your body properly will definitely help your energy stores. Poujade recommends planning your meals in advance and bringing along healthy meals and snacks for the day, to keep you fueled and fed on the go, with minimal thought during the day.
- Make time for a fitness routine
Again, busy entrepreneurs likely have time for little else. But getting in a workout on a regular basis can have a big impact on your energy, and also on your mood. Exercise is shown to boost your energy, but also help you get better sleep, and help you deal with stress, among other things. A helpful tip from Jacques Poujade: a workout doesn’t have to take a long time to be effective. Even if you only have 15 minutes, you can find a workout that will have you breaking a sweat, so don’t let time constraints discourage you.
- Take time to unwind
When you’re an entrepreneur, your work can be your life. To stay energized and excited about your work, make sure you’re carving out time away from your job. This can be especially challenging if you’re used to working from home, or you’re working in an industry that can be 24/7. But taking time off helps your brain and body rest, and helps you stay energized during the time when you are actually working. Your time away from work can be at any point of the day, but make sure you’re truly giving yourself mental space to unwind.
